Jane Eckert at IFVGA annual conference

National speaker, author and agritourism expert Jane Eckert will be the featured speaker at the Iowa Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association annual conference in January 2008.

The two-day conference is scheduled for Jan. 24-25, 2008, at the Best Western Regency in Marshalltown.

Eckert’s seminar is on the agenda for the entire morning of Jan. 25. Her topics include marketing and promotion of fruit and vegetables and agritourism.

Other marketing topics on both Thursday and Friday include strawberries,
farmers markets, CSA and apple orchards.

Gary Luebke, USDA Risk Management Agency, will discuss crop insurance for non-traditional crops.

Ross Chambers from the Ag Innovation Center and Lori Tatreau, buyer for the
Whole Food Market in Omaha, will speak.

ISU Horticulture folks are featured in the breakout sessions as well as State Horticulurist Mike Bevins and Maury Wills, organic bureau, IDALS.

A pesticide recertification session with Linda Naeve from ISU is scheduled from 2:30 to
4 p.m. on Friday, January 25.
